Permission Guidelines

Thank you for seeking permission to reprint material from a Crossroad or Herder & Herder book. Please note that we currently process all permission requests through The Copyright Clearance Center. Permissions requests should be sent to the following:

Please peruse the following types of permission requests, and take note of any information that you might need to prepare prior to contacting The Copyright Clearance Center. Educational Use

You may obtain permission to use Crossroad/Herder & Herder material in an educational setting (including course packets and electronic permission) by contacting The Copyright Clearance Center. Please include the following information when submitting your request:

  • Title, author/editor, ISBN# of the book from which you wish to reproduce from
  • Excerpt length (including page numbers) of the material you wish to reprint
  • Institution Name
  • Course Name
  • Number of copies you wish to make

Use in Another Publication

If you are seeking to reprint material in your own book/publication, please contact The Copyright Clearance Center. Please note that you will be asked to supply the following information:

  • Title of your book
  • Author/editor of the book
  • ISBN # of your book
  • Excerpt length (including page numbers) of the material you wish to reprint
  • Name of Publisher
  • Format in which your book will be published (i.e. paperback, hardcover, electronic)
  • Territory in which your book will be distribution (North America, U.S., World, etc.)
  • Publication date
  • Estimated print run
  • Retail price of the book

Please note that ALL information outlined above must be supplied in order to process your request.

Not-for-Profit Use

The Crossroad Publishing Company hereby issues permission to churches, synagogues, and other not-for-profit organizations to replicate material from publications copyrighted by The Crossroad Publishing Company/Herder & Herder in weekly bulletins, newsletters, and other short-term non-book publications free of charge. However, this permission is contingent on adherence to the following limitations:

  • Material excerpted should not amount to 50% of the total work in which it is quoted.
  • Excerpted material must be accompanied by a credit line indicating The Crossroad Publishing Company as the copyright owner.
  • Publications should be available free of charge.  No monies should be collected for the work in which material is being printed. 
  • The credit line should be cited in the following format:

Rights Limitations

Due to either an expired copyright, or misdirected inquiry, we receive many requests that we simply cannot process. Please be aware that Crossroad does not hold rights in the following instances:

  • Out of Print Books: If a book has gone out of print with The Crossroad Publishing Company, then we no longer hold rights and cannot grant you permission to reprint material under any circumstance. In most cases, the rights revert back to the author or his/her estate. Please contact the current rights holder in order to acquire the necessary permission.
  • Previous Imprints: Please note that we do not hold the current copyright to any of the previous imprints that have been co-published by Crossroad, including Seabury Press, Meyer Stone, or Continuum Publications. Please contact these respective presses in regards to your rights inquiry.
  • Secondary Permission: If the work that you wish to reprint from is taken from a collected work, please look to the acknowledgement section to discern the original publisher of the work-this is whom you need to contact. We cannot grant permission for work that is copyrighted by another publisher.
  • Book Covers, Illustrations, or Photographs: If you wish to reprint a book cover, illustration, or photograph from one of our books, please refer to the credit line appearing below the art and contact the person and/or organization to whom the material is credited. We cannot grant permission for art, illustrations, or designs that we have obtained from another source.
